Book release
A YEAR IN THE OLD VILLAGE -
COLLECTION OF MEMORIES AND FOLKLORE FROM MORLACA
The Transylvania Museum of Ethnography, a public cultural institution that operates under the authority of the Cluj County Council, together with the Living Art Association, invites you to launch a book:
A year in the old village - a collection of memories and folklore from Morlaca.
The book includes interviews conducted in the village of Morlaca in 2021 with locals who still remember life in the traditional village, with its customs, rituals and beliefs. During the book release, you will be able to hear some stories recorded in the local language.
The volume will be the first edition of a series of anthologies that aims at recording collective memories and oral folklore in Romania at the beginning of the 21st century.
The event will include an exhibition of vintage photography with the village, traditional clothing and wedding wreaths.
The village of Morlaca, documentarily attested since the Middle Ages, is part of the ethno-folk area of Huedin and it has developed a special specific costume that has never been exposed, including a style of wedding wreaths that are still created by folk artists. In the photos, you can admire their evolution over the last 100 years, as well as the types of wedding wreaths created now.
The event is organized by the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, in partnership with the Living Art Association, a non-governmental organization based in Morlaca, whose field of activity is the conservation and restoration of traditional heritage and the promotion of folk artists and craftsmen.
The event will take place on Wednesday, March 23, 2022, starting with 17.00 at the headquarters of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, 21, Memorandum street.
The exhibition can be visited until March 27, 2022, from Wednesday to Sunday, between 10 a.m. - 6 p.m., last entry at 5 p.m.
We look forward to welcoming you!
