The Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, a public cultural institution under the authority of the Cluj County Council, invites you in July 19-21, 2024 to the Mineralia Summer – Natural Green exhibition, which will take place at the museum’s headquarters (21, Memorandum street).
In nature, the color green is attributed to the vegetable kingdom, but the wonderful world of rocks and minerals offers us surprises perhaps unsuspected by many admirers. A mountain of green stone cannot be found, but in its depths, in the most distant corners of the world, the green color is present in various forms. It just needs to be discovered.
Among the most common green minerals are: Aventurine - variety of quartz, with an intense, glassy luster; Jasper; Amazonite - a variety of feldspar with shades of “froggy” green; Moldavite.
The well-known Jade is also presented in shades of green, from light - jadeite, to the darkest - nephrite. It has been used since ancient times in the culture of many peoples.
The undisputed star of green stones is Malachite. Extracted in massive blocks, then cut and polished, incredible designs appear on its surface thanks to alternating strips with different shades. That is precisely why it has been used for centuries in the creation of ornamental objects or special jewelry.
The “caste of the 4 precious stones” also includes the Emerald. The rarity, the transparency, but not least, the unparalleled vibrant green color gives it this honourable place. Its beauty is revealed to us in the gem-quality pieces, polished to be mounted in jewelry.
These are just a few examples from the multitude of mineral samples, rough pieces, collection pieces, geodes, semi-precious stones that will be presented at the Mineralia Summer - Natural Green exhibition.
