The hood is one of the most archaic pieces of the folk costume from Hațeg country. Worn both by men and women, the piece covers the wearer’s head and back, but it’s also used on the shoulders, as a backpack.
The material of the piece is made of warp and wool beat, woven in four threads, later slightly twisted, thus acquiring a less dense cloth appearance. It’s made by the long bending of a single width of cloth, the bending line ensuring the piece’s point of support.
On one of the long sides, the two cloth edges are completed, by simple horizontal needle- sewn steps. On the piece’s upper third, a tab is sewn on both sides for a bonding gasket.
On the lower end, the piece ends with tassels braided in four, made of warp and added colored threads.
The woven and embroidered decoration is placed along the long sides, towards the front - a batch of two wider rods, flanked by other three, narrower ones - and at the lower end of the piece, in the horizontal registers, four decorative borders with geometric motifs.
The piece with inventory no. 166 was purchased in 1923, in the village of Bucova, Hațeg Country.
