RE.ȚESUT – Romanian Textile Heritage Comes to Promenada Mall in Bucharest

The immersive exhibition dedicated to Romania’s textile heritage can be visited from June 30 to July 29, 2026, at Promenada Mall Bucharest, 246B Calea Floreasca, daily from 10:00 a.m. to 10:00 p.m.

RE.ȚESUT is a project of the National Heritage Institute, carried out in partnership with the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography and supported by Promenada Mall Bucharest and NEPI Rockcastle. As part of the Bucharest Design Festival, it brings together cultural heritage, contemporary design and sustainability principles in an experience accessible to the general public.

The installation draws on traditional techniques for making rugs — a craft inscribed on the UNESCO Representative List of the Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity in 2016 — and explores their reinterpretation through the creative reuse of denim. The project thus creates a dialogue between traditional Romanian home life and contemporary urban culture, demonstrating that heritage can remain a living source of inspiration and relevance in today’s society.

Throughout the exhibition, visitors can explore contemporary reinterpretations of traditional denim rugs and mats. There is also an educational element which explains how to weave on a loom, as well as the links between heritage, design and the circular economy.

Following its previous success at CINA and its participation in the Bucharest Design Festival – Professional Local Design, the project is coming to Promenada Mall, thus offering an even larger audience the opportunity to discover Romania’s textile heritage in an authentic and interactive way.

Loom Weaving Demonstrations – 11 – 12 July, 2026

From 12:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. on 11 and 12 July, visitors are invited to attend live loom weaving demonstrations led by Ana Bufnea and Ana-Maria Măcicășan, folk artisans from the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography. Visitors will have the opportunity to learn the stories behind this craft, which have been passed down through the generations, and will be able to try their hand at using a loom.

RE.ȚESUT aims to demonstrate that cultural heritage goes beyond simply preserving the past, becoming a resource for education, creativity, community development, and collaboration between the public sector, the private sector, and the creative industries.
