The Arts and Crafts Courtyard at the Night of Museums: ‘REBOOT ARTS & CRAFTS, LIVE!’

During the Cluj Days 2026, the courtyard of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography will be transformed into a space where practice and experimentation intertwine—a “laboratory” open to the general public, where traditional craftsmanship is reinterpreted in a contemporary context.

Experienced artists and artisans from a variety of fields — ranging from woodworking and metalworking (including ironwork and brass weaving) to textiles and semi-precious stones — present their techniques, ideas, and creations. The focus is on using crafts to create contemporary art, and the resulting works are on display for visitors.

Visitors will have the opportunity to participate in interactive workshops, exhibitions and discussions showcasing how traditional craft techniques can be passed on. They will also be able to relax in a lounge area designed to look like a peaceful, fairy-tale setting.

As part of the cultural activities, there will be a panel discussion titled ‘What Is and What Is Not Intangible Cultural Heritage’ on Saturday, May 23rd, from 4:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m. Tudor Sălăgean, director of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, will moderate the discussion.
