The Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, a public cultural institution that operates under the authority of the Cluj County Council, invites you on Thursday, October 19th 2023, from 5:00 p.m., to the volume release “Cluj old churches and cathedrals”, the last volume in the series Exploring the Historical Cluj belonging to history teacher Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici.
As the readers are used to, this book launch will also take place in the Reduta Hall of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, 21, Memorandum street, in the presence of special guests: prof. dr. Alina Monica Bărăian, prof. dr. Ioan Bolovan, corresponding member of the Romanian Academy, prof. dr. Radu Ardevan, main researcher dr. Remus Câmpeanu, prof. dr. Laszlo Alexandru, prof. dr. Mihai Hasan şi dr. Tudor Sălăgean, director of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography and host of this event.
In the opening words of the new volume, Claudiu Pădurean argues the necessity of the publication of this work: «The story of religious beliefs and places of worship built by the people of Cluj of different confessions is a beautiful one, which deserves to be known.
History teacher Vladimir Alexandru Bogosavlievici tells us this story with a talent hard to match. You will learn from the pages of this book the history of the city’s main places of worship. It is not only about the buildings that mark the urban texture of Cluj, but also about the communities that gave and give life to the churches of Cluj. This is, why going through this book is both an imaginary journey through time and a hagiographic journey that reveals to readers fascinating details about an ancient city, but permanently young, capable of delighting both its guests and its inhabitants».
In turn, history teacher Vladimir-Alexandru Bogosavlievici, “Bogo” as the closest ones call him, shares with us the thoughts that led to the printing of a new book:
“The richness of a city is given by its economic condition, but also by its spiritual condition, which is revealed by educational and spiritual institutions. In the 16th century, Cluj was named “the treasure town” because of its material, but also spiritual and confessional riches (...) Our city today has on its territory a series of churches and five cathedrals of various confessions, which highlights a great tolerance on behalf of its inhabitants, and it reveals a higher degree of civilization.
By doing so many historical tours with students or various other groups, on my routes I inevitably intercross with religious edifices of the city, some older, others newer, most of them having a very rich and relevant history for our city. So I believe it’s beneficial for the general public to present the main Christian places of worship”.
