Șuba (long and wide coat, lined with fur and worn by men) is a clothing item whose practical and symbolic functions are equally important. For the cold period, it provides thermal comfort and protection against rain, snow or wind. On the other hand, “șuba” is a piece of clothing that communicates information about the social status of its wearer, while also providing an imposing look.

The hood is one of the most archaic pieces of the folk costume from Hațeg country. Worn both by men and women, the piece covers the wearer’s head and back, but it’s also used on the shoulders, as a backpack.

The artefact of October, proposed by the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography, is a trap (“bărbânță”) used to catch martens.

The child stool in the permanent exhibition of the Transylvanian Museum of Ethnography was purchased from the village of Ieud, Maramureș, in 1955. Life at the sheepfold also generated some specific objects which were used in the sheepfold by the shepherds. Not only the shepherd’s spoon, but also the polenta tray was present among the objects of use, as part of the daily inventory. It was used by shepherds when eating together polenta with cheese or green cheese.
